Meet Smudge — my new brudder!

Hi everybuddy! Guess what? Over the weekend, we adopted me a new kitteh-brudder. Isn’t he the cutest?

His name is Smudge and I would luvs to tell you all about him but, well, we haven’t actually met in the furs yet. Mom says we’re gonna take things slow and easy and let everybuddy adjust. But I’ve smelled him under the door and believes me, he smells very nice. So I asked mom to take him the yaptop and let HIM tell you his story. So here he is!

Hello everyone! Gosh, it’s awfully nice of my new sister to let me borrow her blog to tell you about myself. I can’t wait to meet her for real!

Well, let’s see, where should I start?

I don’t remember too much about the first humans I lived with. I do know they stole the claws off ALL FOUR of my paws, if you can believe it. Then they said something about how they had to move and they couldn’t take me. “Sorry about that, Mugens.” (Mugens was my original name). And so they dropped me off at this place called the Humane Society.

Anyway, I hung out there for awhile, hoping for a new family to come along. I mean, I had SO much love to give and nobody to give it to. Well, one day, I heard one of the people there say that my time was running out. I don’t know what that meant exactly but luckily, before that happened, some nice people from a place called HemoSolutions came and took me away.

They told me I had been selected for a Very Important Job. They said that my mission, if I chose to accept it, was to give up some of my blood every few weeks to help other kitties who were sick. They promised that I would only do this for about a year or so and then I could retire and find my very own family.

Now, I won’t kid you. This sounded kind of scary to me. But then I thought about all those sick kitties and I gathered up every bit of my courage and said that I would do it.

This is my courageous face. Do you like it?

And you know what? It wasn’t so bad. When it came time for me to give my blood, it didn’t really hurt and it was over super fast. All the rest of the time, I got to hang out with other kitties and love on the humans and play with toys. Well, before I knew it, my enlistment was up and they told me I was free to start looking for a place to retire.

It took me a few months but on Friday, I found it!

And gosh, was it ever worth the wait. I have my very own room with a humongous window and a comfy bed and lots of toys to play with. But the very best part — the part I’ve been waiting for all my life — is my new mom and dad. They told me all about having to say good-bye to Cap’n Ripley and how they really miss him and how sometimes they’re still sad. So now my Very Important Job is to give them lots of love and headbutts and whisker kisses to make them smile. Oh, I know I can’t ever fill the Cap’n’s boots but they say my little white socks will do just fine!

Thanks again for letting me tell my story. Mayzie wrote me in an email that the residents of Blogville are the best and I can’t wait to get to know you all!

P.S. Animal blood banks like HemoSolutions are always in need of volunteer woofie donors. If you’re interested in finding out more about it, just Google “animal blood bank” and your city or state to see if there’s one near you!

  37. HI Smudge, I loved reading your story. I will be honest and say that I’m not the best of friends with felines usually (I was attacked by one, once, you see – not that we generally tell anyone that as it’s a bit embarressing really!) but we all loved reading such a good news story – it’s so great to hear of happy home stories and I bet you and your sister are going to be the best of pals. You deserve a lovely, happy home after all the good work you have done and we are certain you have found such a home with those lovely people (ie two legged ones!) and your four legged siblings!

    Woof.

    Groucho

  38. Congratulations Smudge!!!! I think you hit the jackpot in terms of forever homes. And you were very brave and selfless to help others by giving blood when you were alone and scared, which makes your adoption by Mayzie’s family all the more sweet. I look forward to hearing about your interactions with (and eventual full blown introduction to) my friend Mayzie. Much love – XXOO – Mazzie
