Shall-Ay Adventure: Arkansas Headwaters

Hey guys!

Gosh, we really haven’t been around much, have we? Mom has had a bad case of the busy brain lately. Did you know that she just started writing for both AND She’s super excited and really wants to do a good job for them and she’s all, “Mayzie, we’ll do your bloggie soon, I promise! I just gotta do this ONE OTHER THING and then we’ll do it. Honest.” Between you and me, there were a whole lotta “one other things.” But anyways, I finally got her focused and here we are!

Which is good cuz I wanted to tell you abouts a coupla things.

First, thank you for all your nice thoughts about Brudder Ranger and his old battle injury flaring up. He’s still not at 100% but he’s Most Definitely getting better. Mom contacted this lady called an “acupuncturist” and she came out to the house and Brudder Ranger liked her a lot and it seemed to make him feel a bit better. However, he did NOT like that mom kept calling him a pinhead.

The woman is rarely as amusing as she thinks she is.

Which leads me to the second thing: Since he’s starting to feel better, mom and dad decided we could go on another Shall-Ay Adventure. This time we went to a campground called Five Points in the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area.

And guess what? We had the WHOLE campground to ourselves. It was great!

See that super steeeep canyon wall in the picture up there? Well, every day, we saw these things called Bighorn Sheep walking around and eating like they were standing on flat ground. I wonder if they had glue or something on their feets to keep them from falling off?

On the edge of the campground, there was a little path that took you over to the Arkansas River. Most luckily, Brudder Ranger was feeling good enough that we were able to do some walking along the trail.

I don't care how much cheese you gives me, Brudder Ranger. I ain't goin' in!

The Arkansas River is super popular with people who like to ride down it in boats. My mom and dad did it once and, if you can believe it, my mom fell OUT of the boat and had to be rescued. She’s special like that.

After our little walk, we drove around for a little bit and looked at pretty scenery like this.

Do you just luvs that heart-shaped cloud or what?

Then we got back and watched the sun set in the canyon and thought about how super good this life is!

Shall-Ay Adventure: Trinidad Lake State Park

Hey everybuddy! Remember last week when I posted THIS picture for Wordless Wednesday?

Mayzie Lake

Well, some of you thought that’s where we were going for the 4th of July. BUTT…we had already gone for another big howliday around here: Mom’s Birthday!

This time we packed up the Shall-Ay and headed off to Trinidad Lake State Park.

We got there and picked out the nicest site for her that we could. Do you think we did a good job?

Then I helped dad frost the cake that we made ‘specially for her.

I offered to help him clean the spoon but he said it was chocolate so I couldn’t have any! (Between you and me, I think this is an old-dog’s tail that they tell us to keep all the chocolates to themselves.) But even so, I think it turned out pretty good (and we got some of the yellow part).

Then we gave mom her pressies. Doesn’t she look happy?

This is one of the things we gave her.

im a good dog

It’s called, “I’m a Good Dog: Pit Bulls, America’s Most Beautiful (and Misunderstood) Pet” by Ken Foster. She says that she LUVS it and that it is just the bestest book with the Most Gawjuss pictures. We all give it 87 paws up.

After that, we did a little bit of relaxin’…

A little bit of wildlife watchin’ (there’s an elk in this picture if you squint just right)…

And a whole lotta super funballs time!

This is something called a “wildlife blind.” You were s’posed to stand behind it and look at wildlife.

I thought this view was WAY better!

I thought looking for wildlife this way was WAY better!

Brudder Ranger agreed!

Gosh, it was fun! And on our last night there, we took a little hike from our campsite and Mother Nature treated us to THIS Most Magnificent Sunset over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

I think this was a birthday mom will never forget, don’t you?

Shall-Ay Adventure: Palo Duro Canyon

Hi everybuddy! So, if you follow my Facebark page, you know that we just got to go on another  Most Funtastic Shall-Ay Adventure!

This time, we were heading out to meet my Auntie K and Uncle C (and a couple of their furends) in a place called Palo Duro Canyon in a state named Texas.

On Thursday night, mom and dad got everything loaded and away we went with me navigating!

Always keep your eyes on the road!

Always keep your eyes on the road!

Now, we didn’t go all the way to Texas that first night. We stopped in another state called New Mexico. Now, I like New Mexico a lot cuz that’s where Auntie K and Uncle C used to live. So the next morning, when mom and dad said that we had to get going, I tried my best to convince them that we should just stay in New Mexico.

It's so comfy here in New Mexico!

So while I worked my whiles on dad…

Wouldn't you just rather hang out in New Mexico skritching me than get in the car and drive again?

Mom went to use the little girl’s room. And that’s when she saw THIS…

Mom thought there was a woeful lack of specific information on this sign.

By the time she got back, nothing I could say or do would make her stay in New Mexico! But I at least was able to talk them into taking us for a little hike first…

Did you hear that, Mom? I think it's a RATTLER!

Where I found the Most AWESOMEST bone ever! But wouldn’t you know it? Mom wouldn’t let me keep it.

Mom and Dad promised that the trip would be worth it and there would be lots of scenery to see and places to sniff. And boy, were they right! THIS is the first thing we saw when we got there!
